| dc.description.abstract | Η παρούσα μεταπτυχιακή διατριβή αποτελεί μια προσπάθεια διερεύνησης πτυχών της συμπεριφοράς του διευθυντή δημόσιου δημοτικού σχολείου στην Κύπρο εν καιρώ πανδημίας COVID-19, εστιάζοντας κυρίως στον ρόλο του ως σχολικό ηγέτη, ως λήπτη αποφάσεων σε συνθήκες αβεβαιότητας, ως διαχειριστή κρίσεων και ως διαχειριστή αλλαγών.
Στην Κύπρο, διανύεται μια περίοδος όπου η αναστολή της λειτουργίας των σχολικών μονάδων, η εφαρμογή της εξ αποστάσεως εκπαίδευσης και η θεσμοθέτησή της είναι γεγονός, η επαναλειτουργία των σχολικών μονάδων γίνεται υπό την προϋπόθεση τήρησης υγειονομικών πρωτοκόλλων και μέτρων πρόληψης, ενώ ταυτόχρονα αναδύονται στην επιφάνεια νέες ανάγκες και πρωτοφανή προβλήματα που παρεμποδίζουν τη μέγιστη δυνατή εκπλήρωση του εκπαιδευτικού έργου.
Κατόπιν άδειας της Διεύθυνσης Δημοτικής Εκπαίδευσης, πραγματοποιήθηκε ποιοτική έρευνα σε μία σχολική μονάδα της Κύπρου, η οποία αποτέλεσε τη μελέτη περίπτωσης. Το δείγμα της έρευνας ήταν ένας διευθυντής δημόσιου δημοτικού σχολείου της Κύπρου και τέσσερις εκπαιδευτικοί που εργάζονται σε αυτό τουλάχιστον από την Άνοιξη του 2020. Στο πλαίσιο διεξαγωγής της έρευνας, συλλέχθηκαν πρωτογενή δεδομένα μέσω ημιδομημένης συνέντευξης από τον διευθυντή και μέσω δομημένου ερωτηματολογίου από τους εκπαιδευτικούς, τα οποία διασταυρώθηκαν για σκοπούς εξαγωγής έγκυρων αποτελεσμάτων.
Μέσα από την έρευνα, διαφάνηκε ότι ο διευθυντής χρειάζεται να ασκεί διαφορετικά τον ηγετικό του ρόλο αυτήν την περίοδο. Φαίνεται ότι, η πανδημία COVID-19, αποτελεί σοβαρή αιτία δημιουργίας πολύ σημαντικών, πρόσθετων απαιτήσεων στο ρόλο του, καθώς ως σχολικός ηγέτης, κλήθηκε να διαχειριστεί αυτήν την υγειονομική κρίση στο επίπεδο της σχολικής του μονάδας, να αντιμετωπίσει προβλήματα που προέκυψαν τόσο κατά την περίοδο αναστολής της λειτουργίας της όσο και με την επαναλειτουργία της, αλλά και να συμβάλει στην επιτυχή εφαρμογή της σύγχρονης και ασύγχρονης εξ αποστάσεως εκπαίδευσης, μιας απρογραμμάτιστης αλλαγής που εισάχθηκε την περίοδο της πανδημίας COVID-19 στο εκπαιδευτικό σύστημα της Κύπρου. | el_GR |

| dc.description.translatedabstract | This dissertation attempted to explore aspects of the school principal’s behavior in the Cypriot public primary schools during the COVID-19 pandemic and focused primarily on his role as school leader, decision maker during times of uncertainty, crisis manager and change manager.
In Cyprus, schools are currently dealing with various situations such as the suspension of schools’ operation, the implementation of a distance learning education which is currently institutionalized by law, the reopening of schools with new prevention measures and health protocols to follow, whilst new and emerging problems are being observed that act as an obstacle in the fulfillment of the overall educational process.
After requesting and receiving the permission to conduct research from the Department of Primary Education, a qualitative research study was carried out in a school organization in Cyprus. The selection of the school acted as a case study in which data were collected. The research sample was the school principal of a primary school and four teachers who have been working in the school since Spring 2020. As part of the research, primary data were collected through a semi-structured interview by the school principal and through a structured questionnaire by teachers. Both research data were crossed checked for the purpose of extracting valid research results.
Through this particular case study, the data revealed that a school principal needs to exercise various different leadership roles during a time like this. In particular, it seems that the COVID-19 pandemic is considered a serious crisis in which school principals’ need to acquire additional roles, since the school principal in our case study acted a school leader. In fact, he had to face this unforeseen change of the COVID-19 pandemic in the education system of Cyprus. Specifically, he was called upon on to manage this health crisis in his school, he faced and dealt with problems that arose during the suspension of school’s operation as well as during the reopening of the school. Furthermore, based on the results the school principal contributed to the successful implementation of synchronous and asynchronous distance learning process. | el_GR |
