dc.description.translatedabstractΣhe main purpose of this thesis, prepared as a follow-up of the Master Degree in <Information Sciences> of the Open University of Cyprus, was the development of a series of extensions to a program called „ CITER ‟. This program has been developed within the framework of a European program by the name <eContentPlus 2005–2008>, from the Greek Institute of Technology and Computers in Athens, in cooperation with related education European bodies, with a view to the development and exploitation of digital content educational nature. „CITER ‟ program enabled the creation of a repository of school textbooks and history books, multilingual (UTF-8), with usability as an alternate way of teaching the course of history, based on the features and functionality of electronic media. In order to connect the existing program „ CITER ‟ together with the new extensions, it was necessary to perform a first approach by using Unified Modeling Language (UML diagrams) and the Extended Entities Relations Diagrams. Finally, the technique of reverse engineering was used in order to facilitate the understanding and identification of opportunities provided by the extension of the program in comparison with the existing system. The extensions that have been implemented related to group of users and to give users access to the system „CITER ‟ aiming tile comments and translations. This feature is provided to the user through pop-up text edit boxes and autonomously or in rich text format or HTML text format. The inclusion of the above user interaction features and system appointed the transition of the overall work of the ITY to the second generation of Web technologies, known as <Web 2.0>. For the design and development of this thesis, the main technologies used was Java language „Java Servlets‟, „ JSP ‟, „Javascript, HTML ‟ and CSS for structuring and appearance of Web pages. These technologies are used in conjunction with the database administrator PostgreSQL as long as the Server/Web server Apache Tomcat Web. The completion of the thesis becomes with the report and presentation of the application of the developed technologies that were used in the newly-created program `CITER' for the design and development of the formal web page for Cyprus Association for Librarians and Information Scientists, „CALIS‟. Αt the process of development of the new software, „CALIS‟ application followed the „direct path‟, according to which, after were taken decisions on the operations that would be supposed the new system to incorporate, were determined and executed all the phases of object oriented development of the software that concerned the analysis, design, development, implementation and evaluation of created software.el_GR
