Logistics is the set of processes required to design, implement and control the flow (transport, transit and storage) of goods and goods from any point of destination and vice versa. Although the scientific study of logistics has intensified the recent years, logistics is a process that is going on for thousands of years, essentially from the beginning of the agriculture revolution, because of the need to move the surplus of the agriculture production. The Supply Chain (SC) sector contributed to Greece’s GDP circa 10 %. This percentage is significant of the importance of Logistics in the national economy. Considering that the “heavy industry” of the country (tourism), contributed about the same percentage at the domestic GDP, it is more than obvious that logistics have a substantial dynamic. The (small) domestic industrial production cannot explain the size of Greece’s logistics, so we must search other factors for this growth. The major factor is of course, it’s geographical position, and in particular the Mediterranean sea. In due course of history, the control of freight routes in this region is inextricably linked to the rise (and fall) of major civilizations and empires, up to the relatively recent past. The geopolitical position of the Mediterranean, which essentially unites three continents and at the same time constitutes a very 'attractive' waterway for the transport of the rest of the goods, always puts the Mediterranean Supply Chain up to date. At the same time, however, it has few fixed points because it depends on factors such as the security, the political situation of each Mediterranean state, the alliances and interests of large countries that consider it whole (or part of it) part of their sphere of influence and interest. In this context, we will examine Greece's ability to respond to the rapid evolution of Mediterranean SC, mainly due to technology and the politico economical relations in this important basin. At the same time, we will explore the weaknesses of the present situation and we will present ways to deal with those, in a short or in a mid - term period, in such a way, that emerging from the decade-long crisis, facing unaccepted situations (such as COVID 19), Greece should be able to seize these opportunities to emerge as a significant Mediterranean trade. factor.el_GR
