The arrival of the British in Cyprus in 1878 did not change the desire for Cyprus to be united with Greece (the Union), a political demand of Greek Cypriots since in the post-Ottoman period. However, the Union's claim was in conflict with British interests in the region. The ineffectiveness of the political and diplomatic means of achieving the Union turned the Union movement in the mid-1950s towards the use of armed methods: EOKA, a revolutionary organization was active in Cyprus for the period 1955-1959, helping to end the British rule and the declaration of the island as an independent state. The literature has so far focused on the political events of the years 1955-1959 without extensive reference to the action of the British law enforcement level to counter the revolution. The purpose of this thesis is to highlight the main initiatives developed by the British mechanism to tackle the EOKA national liberation movement during the four-year period 1955-1959. In this context, special attention will be given to police involvement. Regarding the methodology, qualitative research will be utilized, focusing on analyzing the motivations and objectives of the UK in policing and repression. Information will be drawn from secondary sources from Greek language and international literature, which will intersect with each other in an effort to achieve as objective an investigation as possible.el_GR
