| dc.description.abstract | Η Φυματίωση είναι μία λοιμώδης μεταδοτική νόσος η οποία εμφανίζει αύξηση των κρουσμάτων τα τελευταία χρόνια σε παγκόσμιο επίπεδο. Στην Κύπρο, παρά την αύξηση των κρουσμάτων, ιδιαίτερα σε αλλοδαπούς, βρίσκεται ακόμη υπό έλεγχο αφού ο ΦΔΔ είναι κάτω του 1%.
Σκοπός της παρούσας εργασίας είναι ο υπολογισμός του συνολικού ετήσιου κόστους της Φυματίωσης στην Κύπρο, κάτι που δεν έχει γίνει ποτέ στο παρελθόν. Στην Κύπρο όλες οι υπηρεσίες διάγνωσης και θεραπείας της φυματίωσης προσφέρονται δωρεάν και κατά αποκλειστικότητα από το δημόσιο τομέα για όλους τους ασθενείς, σε μία προσπάθεια ελέγχου και πρόληψης της νόσου. Ο υπολογισμός του κόστους στηρίχτηκε στα λεπτομερή στοιχεία που υπήρχαν στην Επαρχία Λευκωσίας, για το έτος 2009 και στη συνέχεια έγινε αναγωγή για ολόκληρη την Κύπρο. Οι ασθενείς χωρίστηκαν σε πέντε ομάδες: Σε αυτούς με ενεργό νόσο, με λανθάνουσα νόσο, με ενεργό νόσο και λανθάνουσα νόσο το 2008 που συνέχισαν και στο 2009 και στους contacts του 2009.
Το μεγαλύτερο κόστος αφορούσε την πρώτη ομάδα. Υπολογίστηκε στις 6.479,35 ευρώ ανά ασθενή και σχετίζεται με τη μακροχρόνια νοσηλεία στα πλαίσια των DOTS. Για τη δεύτερη ομάδα το κόστος ανά ασθενή ήταν 1.171,77 ευρώ. Το κόστος για την Επαρχία Λευκωσίας υπολογίστηκε στις 330.768,57, ενώ το κόστος συνολικά για όλη την Κύπρο στις 661.937,52 ευρώ.
Σύμφωνα με τα ευρήματα το κόστος της Φυματίωσης στην Κύπρο δε φαίνεται να είναι υψηλότερο από εκείνο σε άλλες αναπτυγμένες χώρες. Ο μικρός αριθμός των περιστατικών παρέχει τη δυνατότητα καλύτερης αντιμετώπισης ειδικά των ασθενών με ενεργό νόσο. Το πρόγραμμα ελέγχου της Φυματίωσης στην Κύπρο φαίνεται να είναι αποτελεσματικό.
Ειδικά σήμερα που απαιτείται ορθολογική διαχείριση των οικονομικών πόρων, θα πρέπει να λαμβάνονται μέτρα πρόληψης για τον περιορισμό του κόστους. Μέτρα όπως ο έλεγχος των αλλοδαπών στο επίπεδο των κοινοτήτων τους, προγράμματα αγωγής υγείας, ο αυστηρός έλεγχος των ατόμων που προέρχονται από χώρες με υψηλή επίπτωση της νόσου, θα μπορούσε να βοηθήσουν σημαντικά. | el_GR |

| dc.description.translatedabstract | Tuberculosis is an infectious contagious disease and is believed to have been present in humans for thousands of years. During the last decades Tuberculosis is increasing globally. In Cyprus the Tuberculosis incidence is low but during the last years cases of Tuberculosis are increased among immigrants.
The purpose of this research is the estimation of the total cost of Tuberculosis in Cyprus. There has been never in the past a cost analysis about Tuberculosis in Cyprus. Since the services for diagnosis and treatment of Tuberculosis are offered for free and exclusively from the government health services, including all kind of expenditures concerning the disease like blood examinations, hospitalation and medication, a cost analysis shall reveal the real magnitude of cost.
The design of the research was based on the detailed medical records of five groups of patients who were diagnosed and treated in Nicosia General Hospital in 2009: patients with active tuberculosis, patients with latent tuberculosis, patients with active and latent tuberculosis who were diagnosed in 2008 but they continue treatment and in 2009 and contacts of active tuberculosis patients. The total cost for Tuberculosis in Nicosia for 2009 was estimated to 330.768,57euro. The total cost of Tuberculosis in Cyprus was estimated to 661.937,52euro.
The highest cost it seems to concern the patients with active tuberculosis because of the long period of hospitalation according to the directly observed treatment program for the patients with active Tuberculosis that is followed in Cyprus. The total cost for this group of patients was estimated to 6.479,35euro per patient. For the patients with latent Tuberculosis the total cost was estimated to 1.171,77euro per patient.
The total cost for Tuberculosis in Cyprus is not higher according to the cost of the disease in other developed countries. The small number of patients gives the opportunity to hospitalized the patients with active Tuberculosis according to the DOTS. The national plan for the prevention and control of Tuberculosis in Cyprus is efficient but a special concern is needed for immigrants. | el_GR |
