Political, social and economic developments in post-war Greece fertilized the ground and led the way for a group of military officers to commit perjury, defile democracy and impose, without significant resistance initially, a blatant dictatorship. During its seven-year life, human rights and freedoms were violated and the economy deteriorated. One of the worst consequences stood also the fact that the country's cultural character was damaged, historical buildings were destroyed, traditional cultural complexes were altered and the landscape changed in the context of maximizing profits and spreading propaganda by the rulers. The seven-year political diversion adversely and irreparably affected the cultural heritage of the country. This study focuses on the management of monuments and natural landscape during the dictatorship (1967-1974).el_GR
