The aim of this dissertation is to study the role of museum collections with regard to the prevention of climate change, using the Australian Museum as a successful case study. To do so, we first review historical data related to the emergence of the phenomenon of climate change. Then, our research focuses on the effects of climate change in Australia, with reference to the characteristic case of the fires of 2019-2020, which caused irreparable environmental consequences and led to the mobilization of the museums in Australia. To demonstrate the catalytic role of museum collections in the protection of the environment, we then analyze the institutional norms that encompass this interdependence at their core. We review the Paris Agreement, as well as the content of the 2030 Agenda, with an emphasis on the 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Finally, through selected examples, we present the scientific and cultural activities of the Australian Museum, in order to clarify its Cultural Policy, including regarding the protection of the environment, as well as its contribution to the building of social capital and the resilience of society. The methodology of this dissertation was based on the rich internet material available on the Australian Museum and on a bibliographic review.el_GR
