The purpose of the research concerns issues related to the field of dieticians – nutritionists at an inpatient level, but also in Primary Healthcare. At many levels, there is a lack of consideration for the Dietician – Nutritionist specialty, in the points of a law plan, while other specialties of health professionals are being referred to. More specifically, there is the exclusive assignment of responsibilities that concern childhood obesity, hypertension, type II diabetes, hypercholesterolemia, obesity, weight loss in normal conditions, to clinical / hospital dieticians and there is no provision for Dietician / Nutritionist jobs in all Primary Healthcare levels. This research was based on literature review, through the relevant international literature, where the dietician’s role in public hospitals is referred to as supportive and concerns the nutritional support of hospitalized patients, as well as the collaboration with the rest of the hospital staff. It also emphasizes the continuous lack of human resources necessary for the staffing of the nutritional department, the inadequate training of the medical and nursing staff in nutritional matters and the lack of quality nutritional care. It is worth noting that in the literature review, the dietician’s role is not taken into consideration at all in the Primary Healthcare, which constitutes the pillar of the health system. Furthermore, there was a problem related to the transparency of the provided information on the websites of the main Cyprus hospitals and of the Ministry of Health regarding the health services of the nutrition department and its organizational structure, thus creating the impression of a non-modernized health system. The research and studies conducted to study the effect that health services have on longevity are very few, and at the same time, the European population continues to age. This has consequently led to the increase of morbidity from various forms of cancer and cardiovascular disease. Through these few studies, the positive relation between the quality and quantity of health services and longevity is proven, when these are provided by a solid primary healthcare. Finally, through the literature, the reinforcement of the nutritional services through the healthcare system is accepted.el_GR
