This thesis combines my work objectives and the profound knowledge I have gained in the present postgraduate program. As a theatre teacher in primary education, every year I come up against a new theatrical performance challenge, along with my students. My experience, so far, has shown me that students enjoy the preparation of a theatrical play, under any circumstances. I am always getting thrilled when I realize that children see everything simple. From their point of view, I see theatre as it truly is, simple and magnificent. Even when conditions impose hasty preparations or limited work on the show, children give their best. Their efforts and consistency in teachers’ instructions make them discover each time something new through theatre lessons. Therefore, the aim of this thesis is to record the process of preparing a theatrical performance in the school environment, starting from the theoretical background and resulting through the directorial approach, of course, in the performing act. To explore this project we have chosen Aristophanes’ comedy, Peace. The play that we selected has been adapted for children by Dimitris Potamitis but it has also been changed by interventions that arose from the work done in the theatre class of the 3rd grade, in the 3rd Primary School of Argyroupolis, where I am currently teaching. By following a course plan enriched by the teachings of Stanislavski, Grotowski and Boal, children find out how to work according to their methods, they become familiar with different theatrical techniques and learn about theatre. It is possible that children may not be able to perform immediately on stage in such way as they were taught because of other factors. But it is certain that the theatrical bases already set, will help students to cope with every theatrical venture in the future.el_GR
