The goal of this dissertation is inscribed in the wider context of the comparison between the Byzantium and the West in the late Middle Ages. Specifically, the goal is to present the dominant characteristics of courtly love as it appears in the troubadours, the myth of Tristan and Isolde, and Chretien de Troyes, in order to find out if and how they can be identified in late Byzantine romance. The main focus is the text " Livistros and Rodhamne" and research is enhanced by the careful study of this text’s vocabulary. The conclusions confirm the connection between the two worlds, Byzantium and the West, with the expected convergences and variations dictated over time by the specific historical and social conditions of each region.el_GR
