Cyprus is an island with a particular cultural tradition that combines an alliance of cultural contrasts and is perceived in all areas of its art. Museums in Cyprus come to help study and preserve the cultural treasures of the island, as well as the very identity of the island, as it has been shaped from antiquity to the present day. Tourism, a blooming industry on the island, relies heavily on the island's advantage of having a large amount of sunshine all year round, and as an island combines the advantage of the sea. The mass tourism model, the negative consequences of which have already begun to emerge, dominates this. This has led to efforts to develop alternatives, forms of tourism, which offer the positive elements of tourism, while at the same time neutralizing the negative ones. Museum tourism is a kind of alternative tourism, which has begun to gain ground abroad and is used as a tool for area development. This research aims to study the development of cultural tourism in Cyprus, and more specifically the role of museums as an integral part of culture. The methodological framework of the work was based on a bibliographic review at first stage, and then quantitative and qualitative research was carried out through interviews with representatives of three thematic museums of Limassol. Research has led to the conclusion that it is a type of tourism in which there are prospects if appropriate attention is given to the industry. New technologies are the key to the success of modern museums, as well as the most effective communication with the public. The human-centered approach of museums has begun to gain ground also in Cyprus, but there is still a long way to go. Based on the results of the research, an effort is being made to strategically design and plan a Museum of Musical Instruments in Limassol, Cyprus, which can serve as a model for the development of modern museums, and the significant impact in the development of a city.el_GR
