Aim: The investigation of the problems on the access of vulnerable groups and uninsured citizens to the health system during the economic crisis. Method: An investigation of the existing literature on the access of vulnerable social groups to health services and a cross-sectional study were conducted with a sampling rate, from February 1st to May 15th 2016. The study population consisted of 151 participants aged 18-75, living in Athens and Larissa, of which 44 were unemployed, 18 were pensioners and 89 were employees, Greeks were the 57% of the participants. The foreigners were mainly from Albania, Bulgaria and Romania. Data collection was made using a questionnaire based on the international literature. Statistical analysis was performed with the IBM SPSS 21.0 Social Science Statistical Package. Statistical tests x2 (chi-square test), x2 for chi-square trend test, t (student's t-test) and spearman's correlation coefficient (rs) were included. Results: Regarding the use of health services, the percentage of participants who used health services and their due to cost difficulties in the use of health services, were imprinted. Concerning the participation in the cost of health services and medicines, the rates of participants who did not receive health services and medication due to financial difficulties were studied. Regarding the access to health services, the difficulty and the types of access to health services were investigated. Regarding the economic status, it was examined whether the increase in monthly family income was related to the difficulties: a) in communication, b) due to complicated bureaucratic procedures, c) in the treatment by the medical staff, d) in getting information about the health problem, e) relating to high costs, f) in the knowledge of available health services and g) in the knowledge of the patients’ rights to the use of the available health services. Conclusions: The economic crisis in Greece dramatically affected mainly the lower income classes and increased the existing problems of inequalities and access to health services. Compulsory public expenditure cuts due to crisis and increased patient participation in costs combined with increased migratory flows, loss of household incomes, high unemployment rates and an increase in the aging population, have greatly increased vulnerable social groups and posed serious problem for the Greek health system. Radical changes and reforms are needed, based on the equal access of all people without exception, a patient-centered approach to the problem and a priority for vulnerable citizens.el_GR
