Information Technology is one of the most rapidly developing industries worldwide, therefore the concern about meeting the future needs in human resources is intense. The participation of women is declining and this concludes to the lack of diversity in human resources, which is a basic element for growth of innovation, productivity and competitiveness. This master thesis aims at the complete study of international bibliography with a focal point in gender inequality in 2 principal axes: Education in Computer Science and Employment in IT. The global participation of women in education and employment, imprinted in the master thesis, is giving prominence to the need of early and effective taking of measures. Consequently, reasons of young women for not following studies in IT are set down, as well as, factors that affect their decision for not integrating the IT workforce or abandoning the IT sector in the middle of their career. Benefits for IT deriving from diversity enhancement are significant and can be found in many levels: (women, organizations – companies, State, Science) and are presented in detail. Ways and proposals for confronting the barriers during typical education, also during the stage of employment in IT are discussed thoroughly. In the end, an Action Plan is proposed, consisting of priority axes and specific actions for diversity enhancement aiming at the creation of talented workforce and a substantially sufficient number of IT professional with multiplying benefits for both genders, who will support IT economy growth.el_GR
