The public sector in Greece has sustained structural and organizational change due to the economic recession of the country. The newly founded "Urban Rail Transport S.A" is a part of this change. It is the result of the merger of three companies (I.S.A.P. S.A., A.M.E.L. S.A. and TRAM S.A.). The company depends on its human resources to become more competitive and efficient. In our days manpower is considered a source of creativity and means of survival. It is the most important asset of the company. Effective training will have as a result the evolvement of the company's employees. High quality training is what the company needs in order to become viable and productive. Studying and evaluating human resource training programme will help us built an improved future training programme that is going to contribute to the development and renewal of the company. The necessary information and evidence (on how training was conducted) were collected through qualitative and quantitative research addressing questions to managers as well as employees. Human resource training should be consistent with goals and objectives of the company. Though this is a fundamental principle it wasn't the case in the previous status quo (three different companies). The employees through training enrich their skills and acquire new ones that help them adapt to the new job needs, become more effective and efficient, more loyal to the company and content with themselves. "Urban Rail Transport" is a service company and its staff must be trained to provide constantly the same level standards of service.el_GR
