Description
The Pollinators Monitoring Scheme of Kypros (PoMS-Ký) or Επικονοιαζόμαστε (in Greek) is a citizen or community science project that was developed during Darwin Plus projects DPlus 056 and DPlus 088. It is a collaboration between our laboratory and the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology. It is inspired by POMS in UK but it focuses on the Cypriot flora and entomofauna. The programme is currently tested during DPlusFellowship 101. The main aim of the project is to raise awareness regarding the importance of pollinators and to encourage citizens of all ages to start recording insect pollinators on native and non-native plants
Our project was selected by the European Commission and this video featuring our work aims at promoting pollinators' recording in all European countries
Research Scope: They are based at the South Eastern corner of Europe, the Akrotiri Peninsula, Cyprus. We engage in research, vector management and raising awareness about issues related to native and non-native vector ecology, biological control and insect conservation. They are strong advocates of the One Health approach.
